Interactive Voice Response Dialer Use
by James Hensley, Executive Director, Stillman Law Office
There is little argument that advances in digital technology are fueling changes in communication in modern American society. Further, that these advances, combined with current economic pressures, are driving people to examine costs of separate telephone, cable, internet and other media services. Recent trends reflect an increase in individuals eschewing "home phones" entirely - preferring to carry a cellular line and have satellite or cable internet access, providing them to instant and variable internet, text, phone and viewing. The burgeoning housing crises has further fueled this communication renaissance - as the populous becomes more transient in nature, they seek continued lines of communication and connections that are mobile in nature. The American public has increasingly shown us they are more fragmented in location, time and attention span making them more difficult to collect from when they owe debts.
In our industry, it is clear that these communication trends make it increasingly difficult to make contact with individuals when they fall behind on their debts. Just as the world continues to rapidly become less dependent upon traditional landline telephone service and more mobile, the Debt Collection industry has had to look at and try new ways to make contact with the Debtor while still being compliant with local, state and federal laws, as well as court rulings which may impact the Debt Collection firm. Further, in light of the economic and business concerns, these methods must be cost effective and productive in assisting commission-based firms with the increased volume of debtors and staffing needs, while facing more debtors without readily available assets as well as commission and cost pressures from clients.
